Nutrigenomics

“It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease, than to know what sort of disease a person has.” - Hippocrates

  • Nutrigenomics is a science looking at the relationship between our genes, our nutrition/ lifestyle and our health. In other words, it is the science that allows us to understand why people respond differently to the same foods, drinks, medications, supplements and toxins.

We are all unique, and part of this uniqueness comes from differences in our genetic make-up. Certain genetic variants can alter the absorption and metabolism of nutrients, affect how we respond to different nutrients or medications, and can also impact a vast range of important biochemical process within our bodies. Similarly, the food you eat, toxins you are exposed to, whether you exercise, smoke, drink, can all influence your health by up or down regulating your genes or even switching them on and off.

The truth is, although we all have numerous genetic variants, they don’t always lead to poor health. External factors (e.g., nutrition, exercise, stress) all influence whether genetic risks will lead to ill health. Therefore DNA testing allows us to make specific nutrition and lifestyle choices to support your own unique genetic variations, and reduce the risk of adverse health outcomes, empowering you to live a long and healthy life.

  • Using genetic testing is a unique opportunity for us to better understand your genetic make-up. By looking at your genetic characteristics, combined with your life stage, lifestyle, dietary preference and health status, we can customise both nutritional and lifestyle approaches, to achieve better health outcomes.

Armed with the knowledge of your own genetics can empower you to take control of your own health. This process is not just about making you better, it is also about prevention. We cannot change your genes but determining specific genetic variants allows us to focus on key areas or body systems (e.g. hormones, detoxification), where preventative measures of diet and lifestyle may provide the most benefit to minimise the risk of disease.

  • We will order your DNA test kit to be delivered to your address. The test involves a quick cheek swab (no needles!) which you will then send back using a pre-paid returns label to the testing lab. Analysis of your results will be conducted by Alice, a Lifecode Gx Registered nutrigenomics specialist. We will then carefully explain what your results mean and recommend nutrition and lifestyle interventions based on your unique genetic profile, as well as answer any questions you may have.

Histamine Intolerance Test

£349

Do you struggle with nasal congestion or allergy like symptoms, accompanied by headaches, hives, digestive issues or fatigue? These could be signs of histamine intolerance, caused by an imbalance in histamine levels in your body and the ability to break it down, leading to excess histamine levels and the above symptoms. This test analyses the genes and nutrients needed to breakdown histamine, showing where disruptions occur and how to support function.

This package includes:

✔️ DNA test kit

✔️ Histamine Intolerence Test

✔️ Full analysis and interpretation of report

✔️ 45 min consultation

✔️ Individual diet & lifestyle recommendations

  • The Histamine Intolerance test analyses the genes and nutrients needed to breakdown and remove histamine, showing where disruptions occur and how to support optimal function. Two of the key genes included are:

    • Diamine oxidase (DAO) - breaks down histamine in the gut

    • Histamine-n-methyl- transferase (HNMT) - breaks down histamine in the nervous system and lungs

  • Histamine has many functions in the body: as a neurotransmitter, communicating messages to and from the brain and nervous system; triggering the release of stomach acid to help digestion; and it can also be released after stress, injury or allergic reaction as part of the body’s immune response.

Histamine intolerance is the body’s reaction to an imbalance between accumulated histamine and the capacity to break it down. When the body is unable to break histamine down quickly enough it becomes toxic. This test would be highly recommended for anyone experiencing symptoms of histamine toxicity, including skin irritation or breathing difficulties (mimicking an allergic reaction), digestive problems, headaches, fatigue insomnia and anxiety.
